Rostoff Records is an all-new ambient label from Munich, which kicked off early this year with an own sound, filling a void in the city right now. Euclidean Space Interference is my favorite track off the second release.
Munich is well-known for one of the highest standards of living in Germany, a reliable transport system, an abundance of architectural and historical monuments as well as vibrant cultural heritage. In the 60s, the basements of Munich were shaken by the revolutionary spirit of the krautrock classics from the likes of Amon Düül, and later Giorgio Moroder, who gave the Bavarian land a phenomenon called "Munich Disco."
The current musical life of the city is represented by such names as Skee Mask, Zenker Brothers, Schlachthofbronx, veteran labels Schamoni Musik, and Gomma, as well as Blitz club and now closed MMA Club that gave the nightlife its big splash.
Still, the city is often somehow undeservedly stripped of attention and usually resides outside the radars of those who are interested in an independent music scene and underground night culture. Indeed, it is hard to believe that behind the image of a removed corner of Bavaria lies a kind of alternative reality, different from everything that we've already known. However, each coin has a flip side.
We went to Munich in April to try and find out what is behind the ordinary of a traditional and relatively conservative European city. That is where we discovered dozens of labels, groups, artists, self-made organizations that give the new Munich scene its constant dynamism and prove that small, musical communities generate genuinely unique talents.

Radio 80000 is a non-profit online radio based in Munich, which now has grown into a vital music institution on the local electronic scene. It was founded by two music enthusiasts Leo Bauer and Felix Flemmer in 2015 to promote local talents and foster cultural exchange between German cities. Now Radio 80000 broadcasts over 70 shows from Munich, Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg. We asked its founders to compile a selection of music from Munich artists because who knows what’s happening on the city’s music scene better if not these folks.

This guy should need no introduction. Skee Mask is arguably one of the most important producers right now. Having released countless records on the Munich label Ilian Tape, it makes you forget that he's also a great DJ. His bold and vibrating sets push the limits of what's appropriate for the floor and are always a highlight at Blitz, where he holds a residency.
Beni Brachtel aka Bartellow is the co-founder of SVS Records and one of the most prolific artists around here, maintaining his monthly radio show "Flying Horse Music Academy" while writing opera scores and pounding out bangers like this one, which got the Florian Kupfer treatment.
Here's Konrad Wehrmeister's new alias which is also the title of his radio show in our program. It is a nice electric stepper with a German vocal sample wanting sugar and salt. Released on a new imprint RFR Records from Munich.
The Ruffhouse Radio Show has been with us since the early days of the radio. This is their 4th release, and the label head Top Shotta himself delivered this breaky banger alongside Yonkers Tale.
BELP is a fascinating guy, active in a lot of cultural disciplines here in Munich. Recently being involved in a decision made by the UN, whether a small archipelago in the Indian ocean gets its independence from Britain, he somehow also still finds time to produce great music like this. His recent album "Crocodile" was released on SVS Records.
Schlachthofbronx are Munich originals, doing their thing for over ten years now. While releasing one banger after another, they throw legendary parties called "Blurred Vision" which feature the insane Elemental Wave sound system.
While I don’t know much about ODD BEAM yet, I really enjoy his production. Recommended by our friend Silviu aka Top Shotta, he is one to look out for in the future!
